2026 UPDATE · DIESEL TRUCKS · NOCO GB150 RECOMMENDED

The jump starter the internet recommends is under-spec for your 6.7L diesel.

If you tow or drive a 6.7 Powerstroke, 6.7 Cummins, or 6.6 Duramax, the universally-recommended pick is under-rated by 0.7L of diesel. The smallest correct NOCO is the GB150 ($299.95). Below: the chart, the math, and a free PDF buying guide.

Chart by engine — what actually fits

Manufacturer ratings split between gas and diesel. A pack rated "up to 8.0L" usually means 8.0L gas / 6.0L diesel — a 25% reduction nobody names on the box. Below: every current NOCO Boost, what each fits, and whether it's the right unit for your truck.

GB40 1,000A 6.0L 3.0L $99.95 ❌ Under-spec — only fits half-ton gas trucks
GB70 2,000A 8.0L 6.0L $199.95 ❌ Under-spec — diesel limit is 6.0L; your engine is 6.6–6.7L
GB150 3,000A 9.0L 7.0L $299.95 Smallest correct unit for all three engines
GBX155 4,250A 10.0L 8.0L $369.95 ✅ Headroom for cold-soak, twin batteries, and crew-cab diesels
Honest 2026 correction

Why the GB70 keeps getting recommended — and why it's wrong

Search "best jump starter for diesel" and you'll see the GB70 on every list. The GB70 is a great pack — but it's only rated for 6.0L diesel. Your 6.6 Duramax, 6.7 Powerstroke, or 6.7 Cummins all exceed that ceiling. The reviews that say "it started my truck fine" are typically half-ton gas trucks, not the heavy diesels this guide covers.

  • GB70 diesel limit: 6.0L. Your engine: 6.6–6.7L. Math doesn't work.
  • Ford 6.7 Powerstroke draws ~1,800–2,200A cold on twin batteries — vs GB70's 2,000A peak. Zero margin.
  • Below 10°F with dead-flat twin batteries you want 2,500–3,000A — which is the GB150.
  • The accurate recommendation is the higher-paying one. GB150 ($299.95 @ 4.5%) earns ~$13.50/sale vs GB70's $9.00. Doing the right thing earns more, not less.

Where this fits in the lineup

This is the only car-equipment product on the hub besides the dash-cams. The two are complementary: a jump starter for dead-battery situations, a dash cam for accident evidence. Compared to traditional jumper cables, a lithium jump pack lets you self-jump without a second car. The 1000-1500A peak range covers most passenger vehicles. If you drive a heavy-duty truck or diesel, look for 2000A+ units.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between lithium and lead-acid jump starters?

Lithium jump starters are smaller, lighter, and have built-in USB power banks. Lead-acid jump starters are heavier but more reliable in extreme cold. For most drivers, lithium is the better choice.

How many amps do I need?

For a typical 4-cylinder gas car, 1000A peak is enough. For a V8, you need 1500A+. For a diesel, 2000A+.

Should I get a jump starter with an air compressor?

Yes if you also need inflation. Combo units are heavier (3+ lbs) but save you from buying two separate devices.

How long does a lithium jump starter hold its charge?

About 6 months at full charge. Recharge every 90 days to be safe.

Can a jump starter start a completely dead battery?

Yes, if the jump pack has enough peak amps. For a completely dead battery, you may need to let the pack 'pre-charge' the battery for 1-2 minutes before cranking.
